Coastal Spirits

Solo Art Exhibition by Robyn Jackson

As an award-winning artist, this is my 9th solo exhibition. The exhibition runs for three weeks from 14th September to 2nd October. Open Tuesdays to Sundays, 10.30 to 4pm at the beautiful Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery at Gladstone.

Lifelong beach living has connected my spirit, to the coast and the sea. I always need to feel the sand squishing through my toes or feel the sense of relief after jumping in the ocean to feel happy and whole. The beach also is a place of meditation and for solving the problems of the world for me.The beach and all things connected to the coastal strip have been the inspiration for this exhibition. I am inspired by the sculptural form of the Pandanus and the turquoise, jade, and blues of the ever-changing ocean.

Painting on silk is my favourite medium. I am inspired by the vibrant colours on silk and the way the dye flows and blends to create infinite colours. I am constantly taking photos of our beautiful East Coast Beaches as inspiration for my silk paintings. I start with a strong photo (or photos), then my mark making consists of a gutta (coloured rubber) drawing followed by vibrant coloured dyes that create a story of their own.

I am lucky to be able to paint fulltime after a career as a Textiles teacher. The exhibition includes original paintings, limited edition prints and canvas prints, as well as silk scarves and cards. I also enjoy teaching the art of painting on silk, both one on one and with weekend workshops. I hope you enjoy the exhibition as much as I enjoy making art.
